Long Overdue Post

It's been a while since I last update this blog, mainly because I'm busy, and partly because I'm lazy as well. I can't believe how time flies, and now my baby is already 2 years old, and to be exact, he's now 26 months and 26 days old. There are quite a lot of developments from Tyler within these 4 months, especially vocally. He can now say and recognize 1-10, he is able to sing ABC (the whole song, though some pronunciation is inaccurate) he can also sing Twinkle twinkle. Definitely very proud of his progress, but not very proud when he also downloaded bad words. Heard him saying, "Fuck" "Cibai" "Shit" and "Asshole" hmmm... i guessed he downloaded when he heard daddy swears :(

This pic was the very first time when he wanted Daddy to put him to bed and he lay sleeping in daddy's arms. However, this memorable incident only happened once, partly because he gets longer to sleep when he's always playing and ended up sleeping late. Oh yes, he also wanted Daddy to bath him yesterday for the first time after he turned 2. I guess he found the excitement when he and daddy share something in common :p

This is one of those days when he is "very attached" to his monkey friend where we got from Singapore with a "Teddy Birth Cert" and it ain't cheap! Tyler would insist on bringing his "friend" to join his outing to grandparents house. Oh yes, lately, he is able to sit in the car with safety belt if he's not on his car seat, but does not applicable in daddy's car. I absolutely do not know the reason.

The first thing he got into grandparents' home, he'd look for his dear cousin Jayden. It seems that he's more comfortable with kids he sees more often, but he's very scared of kids his own age when they first meet and he actually get along better with grown ups. I hope he'll be ok when he goes to play school next time.

His current obsession in the car when he's bored, is to suck his finger and holding on to my thumb. The cutest thing is he'll say "Bo-Bo Thumb!!!" Bo-BO means bo-rrow, in Tyler's terms. He's current obsession in toys is now "Thomas and Friends" and he has 2 big train tracks, and when next week comes, he'll be getting 2 more big sets from us and his grandad-Ong for Christmas presents. He only likes watching the opening theme for the Thomas cartoons and gets bored after or he'll be so scared when he sees "Sir Tophamm Hatt" that's Thomas's Taukey :P

Look at how grown up my baby is, love him to bits...

Occasionally he wants daddy to feed him...

Meet Damien Ang, son to Jerry and Suri. This picture was taken when Damien was 5 months old. Isn't he a cutie? I was so worried Tyler might crush him coz Damien is still so fragile. It wasn't easy to take good pics of them, luckily I was able to get some out of hundred shots :P

Look at Tyler's Elmo's clan for his 2nd birthday pressies, from hubby and I and also Unc. Jason & Unc. Jon for the Elmo drum. I'd say he has almost all the Elmo collections. I can seriously open toy stores out of Tyler's Toy collections.

My baby turned two!!! and the pretty Thomas cake made by a friend, Priscilla Chuo.

Birthday Boy giving his guest a kiss :x

This is messy, but it's his birthday, so he's allowed to do that for that night, by the way, before this, he messed up the Thomas fondant already, this dessert is just to keep him occupied after we took away his Thomas :) Another special event to commemorate this special day is that hubby finally quit smoking on the day Tyler turned 2 and he managed it well till now, though he's still using Niquittin 21mg, but I'm so very very proud of him. Love my 2 boys in my life very much.

(Note: hubby is still referred as "boy", that's no mistake, till you see his toys collections, then you tell me if I'm wrong! =) )

Singapore 2011

I know it has been long overdue for my update in this blog, but I've been lazy, busy and lazy most of the time. Anyway, we had a family trip to Singapore during Hari Raya from the 30th Aug till 3rd Sept 2011. It was an enjoyable but tiring trip.
(Tiring from handling Tyler mostly =)
He was a good boy in the plane, he slept through the flight as soon as the plane took off. However, he was a little scared when passengers came in as we sat on the very first row, so he wanted to get out of the plane. This time, we were able to soothe his ear air pressure by letting him use the headphone and also Mc. D's hash brown (his favourite) to distract him and it worked out perfectly.

He was so happy to use the airport's baby stroller! but quite reluctant to use his very own Mac Laren! This was taken at the arrival hall before going through the immigration. We stayed in Ibis Hotel in Bugis. The location is great, but the rooms are rather small, with a baby coat in the room, there's hardly any place to move about.

We visited the Singapore Zoo the next day and Tyler enjoyed himself the most there, looking at real life animals rather than from the TV or books. We didn't get to see much in the zoo because the weather was so warm and everyone's tired from taking care of a hyper toddler. We get to see a few monkey species, kangaroo, elephant, tiger, wild boar, hippo... erm.. i guess that's about all.

Tyler with his grandparents =) So glad they were around to help!

So the third day, we went to the Undersea world, he enjoyed looking at the little fishes, but he's terrified of the big ones. There was a small pool where visitors can touch the fishes before entering the sea world, Tyler was so excited to touch the water, but scared at the same time, so he would force all of us to touch the water on his behalf and he just wanna watch us touching the fishes.

And this is the first time he slept on his stroller after the Sea world visit! So we get to walked around a little while he slept and we went to Orchard right after lunch and stayed till night. I'd rate him 90% for that day though he did not wanna be in his stroller most of the time, but it's understandable since he has been out the whole day, yet he wasn't fussy. He enjoyed himself in ALL the toy stores in Singapore. Everywhere we go, we have to stop by the toy store, and he'd walked around on his own. When he sees sometime he like, he'll pass the toy to us and say "thank you" expecting us to buy! hahahahahah

Surprisingly, he was happy to play in the baby coat most of the time on his own will. I am so glad I had help from my in laws, if there were only Daryl and I, I don't think we can survive the holiday, both our batteries would wear off before this little toddler's power!

My new gadget

I'm an official user of iPhone for a week now, all thanks to hubby for getting me one. I never knew iPhone would be such a joy, at first, all I knew was, well... it's a phone with iPod and able to play games...

However, after owning it, you will know that once you use an iPhone, it's quite impossible to look at other phones. I'm enjoying my new gadget totally, I've downloaded things so easily, mainly for Tyler anyway, but you can find many applications that are resourceful for kids nowadays.

Just another update, last Thursday, a man from my condo who lived at the 10th floor committed suicide and jumped down from his balcony and landed right next to the pool. According to the newspaper, he was found dead at around 11.20pm and we didn't even know till we saw the papers on Saturday. It's scary to think of it... I won't be bringing Tyler for walks or to the pool any time soon... or ever...

Tyler at 20 months

My apologies for not blogging lately, I seriously do not know what I've been occupied with, perhaps Korean series :p Yes, been watching a lot of Korean series at home lately... However, now let's get back to Tyler...

Time pass really quickly this year again this year, I know I mentioned about time flies in almost every post, but I can't help it. It's already half a year passed! And Tyler will be 2 years in 4 months. Is that fast or what? It seemed like he was just a baby yesterday... now, running around noisily.

Tyler loves bun, just empty buns will do, he doesn't like the ones will filling. Funny ya?

This is Tyler's very own pool, this was taken in my in law's house.

Oh yes, Tyler's favourite drink; "San Suan" it's a combination of 3 fruits (Orange, Lemon and Samboi) Once he hold the drink, no one can take it away from him. I noticed that he likes drinks that is sour + sweet, more citrus-y, I guess.

He feeds himself pretty well, I guess since he was 18 months old, now he doesn't want anyone to feed him when he eats, thus the floor will be "very" messy. This always happen in restaurants as well... He must have a bowl of rice and a bowl of soup whenever he eats... I'm glad that his appetite is much better after giving him Seven Seas multi-vitamins.

This is the result of over-indulge in his food =) yes, very messy I know, I'd rather he eat than to keep himself clean =P

This is Tyler's first cousin, Jaeden Lam, he's my brother Kelvin's and Sarah's pride and joy. Tyler is actually scared of Jaeden, and Jaeden is very excited whenever Tyler is near. I know soon, both of them will be running around whenever they meet.

Tyler likes "passing" things to Jaeden, whenever JD's pacifier dropped, Tyler will give it back to him, so cuteeee

Eating bun again....

This only happens when he's extremely tired, spot the bun he had in his hand? I didn't even notice that he was sleeping then.

Tyler's little corner when he wants to hide from me, as if I can't see him! hahahahha

Tyler turned 18 mths

My baby turned 18 months (1 & half yrs) 4 days ago. I can't imagine how time flies. He's gonna grow older the sooner than I can imagine... Soon he'll be off to school, then uni, then get married and have children.

I'd say he has good memory of directions, for instance, he hates Kuching Specialist Hospital (that's where his paediatrician is) so if we were to use that road to go to Supermarket or to the eating place, he gets uneasy, and most of the time, he'd cry.

Then if we were to use the road from Foochow Road to our home and cutting through Tabuan Jaya, straight away he recognizes his grandparents home. IF we do not pop by (normally we don't as the traffic is very heavy from 5pm to 7pm) he'd cry so bad.

Even visiting my parents home once a week, he can recognize the road already. I'm not sure which landmark he uses to mark the directions, but I'm very intrigue with his sense of direction at such a young age. He can even remember where I usually buy his bananas (Everise-BDC) and he'd shout out NaNa and pointing to the supermarket.

Tyler is now learning to speak, but he'll just call out word by word. He can call everyone except ME =( He knows who mummy is, as when hubby asked where mummy is, he'll start looking for me. He can call "daddy", "mah mah", "kong kong", "chek chek" and "cho cho" so perfectly, but he just refuses to call me, but he'll kiss me most of the time la =)

His love for ELMO is still so deep that every morning, as soon as he wakes up, he has to watch ELMO on dvds, he no longer wanna watch Playhouse Disney on Astro. He insisted on wearing my Elmo T-shirt as showed in the picture above. Sometimes, I'd wear this Elmo t shirt to make his behave, normally he's quite naughty and sometimes he'd purposely go against my will. However, if I wear this Elmo T-shirt, he'd be more affectionate, hugging and kissing me, actually hugging and kissing the Elmo I'm wearing. Well, what can I say, I'm hunger for his affectionate :P

That's my baby... I pray and hope that he'll grow up to be a wonderful person =)

Tyler's First play date

Tyler had his very first play date yesterday with Emma. Well, Emma is my ex-Uni lecturer's daughter. We kept in touch from time to time so now we both have kids around the same age, thus we arranged a play date for them. Tyler doesn't have any friends around his age, lucky to have met Emma, so Tyler's circle of social network wouldn't only be grown ups :)

I guess Tyler really enjoy having friends around his age, he's more settled down and playing toys together with Emma, but occasionally he would grab toys from Emma's. However, if he's around adults, he'd seek for attention and ask anyone to bring him around.

I would hope to have more play dates in future to shape Tyler to be more confident in meeting people next time.

One Sleepless Night

We had a memorable "Sleepless Night" last Monday... it all began when Tyler cried non-stop when he woke up at exactly 12.44am (my digital clock showed 0:44) So usually when he cries at night, I will transfer him from his crib to my big bed and we'll both sleep in till the next morning. However, this time, his cry was different from his normal "switching bed" cry. He cried so loud that no matter what I do, he won't stop crying till I stepped out from my bedroom. Then he'll stop for a while, as soon as I bring him back to our room, he started screamming, and this time, he won't stop at all. I knew something was wrong... He kept screamming without tearing, since he couldnt stop crying, he kept pointing to the main door and said, "there, there, there" meanning he wants to go out. So we had no choice but to bring him for a car ride. As soon as we stepped out of the house, he stopped crying. We drove along the neighbourhood, and went back once he was more relaxed. When we reached home, he started to get sressful, but we calmed him down with ELMO on the tv and hubby and I slept in the living room with ELMO on, because he refused to sleep in the bedroom. Tyler soon doze off at 2.30am, so we all slept in the living room, just like camping. Then he started to cry again at 3.45am... still the same cry, like he was scared of something, I didn't feel anything at all, but seeing him cry like that made me scared instead. So we brought him out for car ride again. This time we drove all the way to the city, bought Mac D breakfast at 4.30am then went home, this time he was sleeping while I was carrying him in the car, when we reached home, I put him to sleep in our room, which he managed to sleep till 6.30am, while hubby and I had our first early breakfast and we both didn't sleep afterthat. We just watched Desparate Housewives on DVD's. Btw, we've been watching Desparate Housewives from season 1 through season 7 in one month! Anyway, Tyler seemed better in the morning, so hubby brought him to the temple in Batu Lintang and prayed for him. Appearantly, they said there were some "supernatural" stuff that were bothering him. hiakss... but that very night, he slept all through the night.

Sausage rolls

Yesterday I had a day off so I thought of baking sausage roll, which I have not baked for a year or so, since I had Tyler. I was lucky enough that Tyler had been a really good boy, that he gave me an hour and half for me to get the rolls done :) which of course, he must have Elmo on the TV to entertain him.

I got the recipe randomly from the internet, which turned out not bad, it was easy to bake.

Homemade Hot Dog Rolls

- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 4 1/2 cups flour (unbleached, whole wheat, or a mix)
- 1 package instant yeast
- 1 tablespoons honey
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 egg, room temperature

- Heat the milk, water, honey and butter until butter is melted. Check temperature. Depending on the temperature, let cool to 120F.
- Carefully beat in egg.Mix 2 cups of the flour, yeast, and salt. Mix into the milk mixture. Stir in the rest of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Beat well after each addition.
- When the dough pulls together, (it will form a soft ball) turn it out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
- This should take about 5 minutes.Divide dough into 12 -16 equal pieces. This will depend on the size you want for the finished bun.
- Shape into smooth balls, flatten slightly, and place on a silpat covered baking sheet.Let rise for 30 to 35 minutes.
- When buns have almost doubled bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. If you are making hot dog buns I find it easiest to roll the dough out into a large rectangle and cut into smaller rectangles. Let rise with sides touching.
- You can brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, coarse sea salt, or whatever you like. You can add dry onion soup mix for onion rolls. These are very versatile!Makes 12-16

This recipe could give me 36 mini sausage rolls (cut 1 sausage into half). So, I freeze the un-baked ones in the freezer to be eaten later on.

This is Tyler's first sausage roll! and he loves it :)

With a face like that, all hard work is worth it =D
